Chapter 24

"Potter-"

"Harry," he insisted because whatever Draco might have learned right now could wait. He was not going to wait any longer, risk this chance that presented itself here. Theo and Ginny could tease him all they want. The fact remained that Draco was here with him now.

"Harry please. I need to go and research something. Something I did not know how to bring up. But your fear, the thing with the dying in that forest all this might have started then, in means to give you the power you feared you did not have. I guess it's because you never felt the vast ocean of magic you have at your dispense," Draco said looking at him in such a sincere way.

"I will let you go, if you promise to come back," he said smiling.

"Potter do-"

"Harry."

"Harry! Are you actually incapable of understanding what is at stake here? If we find a way to figure out what has happened to you, it will be much easier to get the wild magic out of you. If the reason for it to be there is gone, it should be much easier to give it back. Some of it must be from the forest and some of it from Grimmauld, though I have to take a look at them to be sure. This means you might be able to celebrate Christmas like you want to, with the people you want to, without being afraid things will go wrong."

He was surprised by the content but he could do without the condescension of the delivery.

"That is all good Draco, but right now that is not my concern. I want to know if you will visit me again, not to help me but to spent time with me. You must have felt it too- like before the trials," he said, looking up to catch Draco's eyes.

After a few minutes and with a rather heavy sigh, which must be the best acting Draco could manage on the spot, he finally replied: "Well, if you insist Harry, I shall come tomorrow and take you to town. We shall see the yearly play of Father Christmas and then I shall surprise you with something you will feel very delighted about."

"So you felt it too," he grinned, because he never made things easy for himself or for Draco. But since they are the same that way, it all works out.

"You mean the decline of the urge to chop off your head? Yes, I actually am feeling that. Still want to punch your nose though. I remember the satisfying sound it made," Draco said brushing not there dust from his shoulder.

"That was rather uncalled for, Draco," he complained.

"That was ratter uncalled for, Draco," Draco mocked him.

He felt his temper rise, but before he could say anything Draco turned around and looked at him, eyes wild.
"You have a lot of nerve, Potter. And don't "Harry" me now! More than four years ago- yes, being with you, talking about things, getting a grip of reality that was the first time things made sense, for the both of us. But then life, or the be precise my father and the Ministry happened. Look where it got me? I'm a crazy, outcast widower with a son I never managed to quite connect to and a father who intends to rob me of everything he can, not that he has any clue what he is doing. We cannot simply turn back time and start again where we let off after one evening of sharing in a way that was all too familiar."
After a deep breath Draco added softly: "I came here to get away from things, not to be trapped again."

"I would never trap you," he whispered back.

"I know, but with you it's always now or never, everything or nothing. Most likely you have hundreds of plans to convince me to get my son back and sabotage my father's plans. These are the sides of me and you which will never connect: I never do all in or all out. I always have a way out if I go into a situation, and I weigh the risks. And time is something I use and take, there is no never for me. Don't push me, I will go and let the wild magic take you over."
The words were harsh and true, but what made him hold his tongue was the grave look he got.
Don't push me, indeed.

"If you need more books on wild magic maybe contact Theo? I don't know what unspeakables do, but they must know something about it, right?" He said after he had taken a deep breath. Then he got up and lead Draco to the door.
"Have a nice evening, and see you tomorrow," he hesitated for a moment before he added, "Draco."

"Good night. And dress warm tomorrow, Harry."

Luckily for him, Draco had disapparated before he could see the smile spreading his lips.

Have a merry Christmas everybody!!!
