Chapter 7
It's already dark when he steps out of the small cosy inn in the middle of the village. In the end he has spent the whole day shopping, walking through the streets and eating delicious food.
He listens to the conversations which are going on all around him. He doesn't understand it all, because muggles have such strange words he has never heard before. And apparently when he gets too close to them he disturbers some sort of signal and that gets them rather angry at some "woda-fon-ee" and their thigh prices but useless service.
Still, it's nice just listening to normal talk, not being the focus of it, not having the room go quiet because he enters it. And the food is very delicious. Especially the sweets.
As for the "Naughty" an "Nice" treats he needs to come back and buy some more, because after just one bite it is impossible to say which one tastes better, at least in his humble estimation.
He turns towards the road he has entered the village to go back to his small cottage on top of the hill.
"Oh, you are right. Draco Malfoy wandering around here just like we are. Maybe he too searches for the rare Irish Cupplelipsnipp," he hears the soft dreamy voice.
"'Course I'm. He's my friend."
He would always recognise that slow speaking manner, and the deep voice.
He turns around to see what he has expected, and at the same time be confronted with the most unusual sight in his life: Luna Lovegood and Geregory Goyle standing there, in a small Irish village in the middle of nowhere, smiling at him.
Draco had not seen either of them in the last four years. He had arranged for money to be sent to Lovegood to repair her house and her "printing business". He had also made sure that Greg would have a place to stay, and money to go to school and finish his education.
But he never dared to contact him. At first he feared his reputation and that Greg might be angry with him, then he feared that Greg didn't want to be associated with him any longer, and now he barely had time to think about the people before the war. And he hasn't been back to Great Britain in all the years. He never thought that there might be something back there for him.
Seeing Greg now and being still called a friend by him is a surprise.
Greg has grown up to be huge, but there is a softness to him, and a sense of confidence that he never had before. His deep blue robe fits him well, and he looks truly happy and healthy.
Lovegood on the other hand looks... well, like she hasn't changed one bit. And that observation alone makes something insight him ease up. She is still the same, after all that has happened.
Though the sight of her wearing colourful fairy lights like a Christmas tree on top of her warm coat, is something that even his impressive vocabulary lacks the words for.
"Good evening Gregory, Miss Lovegood." His manners finally kick in and he greets them.
"Hello Draco. I see you managed to free yourself of the Nargel- infestation you had. That is so good for you," Luna replies first.
He has to fight the frown that wants to overtake his face. Nargel- infestation?
"Draco," Greg says.
The familiarity of the way Greg says his name hits him. Greg is not stupid, he grew up with Theo, Blaise Crabbe and him, but Greg never got the hang of words. He sometimes would use the wrong one, and they all would mock him for it, so he started to say less and less, and be even more careful what he was about to say. He is well aware that he had been a very cruel kid.
"Lovely village, don't you think," he asks because he isn't sure what this is all about. They could have ignored him, but instead they have called him out.
"Oh my. Greg I think we should invite Draco to some tea. Then we can all talk about why we are here, and how we spent the last years and Draco can tell us why he is here and what he did," Lovegood says and starts to turn around. "Come Draco, I have a special tea from India that will help you, since you are very prone to confusion. It is one of your oddities," she speaks as if he isn't standing just here.
Helpless he looks over to Greg, wishing for any kind of explanation, but Greg tries to hide his grin and just shrugs his shoulders.
"Best you follow us, because otherwise she will make me make you," he states and turns around to follow her lead.
For a moment he simply stares at the back of the both of them.
But he is interested in what is going on in the world of wizarding Great Britain.
Lucky for him spotting Lovegood or trying to follower her is not hard at all.
