dreamwith tips?

so i read that a lot of people are more comfortable over at dreamwidth-
sadly i have to say i'm not one of them.
here is the stuff i wonder about- and maybe some folks on my f-list can sent me tips where i can get my information from over? that would be really awesome.

• groups - i have all my different things ordered in groups like: hp-fandom, friends, manga, general stuff etc. is there even such an option over at dw?


• style - i'm still playing around with the style in my lj (i cant decide yet and it's not always working and the CSS is fighting me) but i have no clue about the code over at dw- is there such a group (that is still active) like layout_lounge


• interaction? i mean i know it is getting quiet around lj (really where are you all talking to each other now on the go? i am so not on top of this social media thing and please dont tell me tumblr i will not get one because i don't like conversation by reblogging i want conversation by comments or just so for the fun of it) any tips- i take any tips at all!


• what can dw do that lj can't? like is dw in any way better than lj? and is there a special thing i shall totally check out?

all the tips will be highly appreciated from me!

The one thing dreamwidth can do that LJ can't is post longer stories/chapters -- like, ~6000 words compared to ~10,000. Or so. :-)

Also, you can actually search DW without getting only recommendations for Russian accounts.

I haven't made a dreamwidth account yet, and am not sure if I should!

There are a lot of fandom groups on Facebook, but the conversation is not as good, imo.

apparently the only difference for real is the length of the posts - and well that is fine with me to split chapters
and in the end i am on lj now for 9 years and it was so often said they will shut it down, and it never happened... so maybe it was just a panic reaction?

thanks for telling me that- but with no good conversation i will not get a fb either... (i'm such a social media shun-er i dont even have fb LOL)

I think a lot of people did panic initially at the announcement of the server move. I hope it was just an overreaction, and nothing actually happens. I would hate to lose LJ!
I'm still not sure if I should make a DW account or not.

yeah i mean the number of times we have heard "lj is to be shut down" in the last 8 years - and look at us still being here, still posting and doing stuff and while the service did get a little worse it still most of the time works fine, right?

edit: also i totally didn't realise that it's you in my gywo- buddy group! sorry for that can i blame it on my real life being really in turmoil right now?

Very true. I think I will wait a while before jumping on the DW bandwagon.

yeah i got really lucky with my group!
and i only post my fanwork over there- lj is and always be my homebase, now i'm here for 9 years, not going to leave anytime soon, am i XD
