Remembrance

"There you are. Everybody was searching for you."

Teddy looked up at the beautiful young woman, who stepped into this sanctuary. He felt so guilty but he couldn't help it, he was so overcome with grief and just needed a break.

"Where is your brother?"

"I think he went back to the graves. For all he is named Atlas, and acts like he bears the world on his shoulders... it's not so easy. Dad would be mad at him."

"He would. I never forget when you both fought over your names, as soon as Draco turned your back on you."

"'You are named after the stars, not the mythology, sweetheart, as is family tradition for a Malfoy'," the women said, sounding surprisingly similar to her father, before sitting down next to Teddy. "Patience of a rock that man."

"And you would know, you tried it often enough."

"As I remember, I was not the only one. Do you remember the time we 'accidentally' swapped all the labels in his ingredients cabinet?"

"Urg, don't remind me... we spent the whole weekend in there fixing it and asking him question after question... though I think that weekend fixed my potion grades."

"He was a good teacher," the women sniffed, and Teddy put his arm around her.

"He was that. Lousy cook though."

A slight giggle could be heard. "We would have starved if dad hadn't taken over the chore-"

"'-or we could always get elves, Harry'"
"'-or we could always get elves, Harry'", they both said in tandem, laughing.

"I am going to miss them so much, ain't I?"

"Me too, Electra, me too. I think I came up here expecting to see them... but they are not here."

"But... I... you know... I feel envious. I mean... were we not enough to make dad stay? Dying just two days after... didn't he know we would need him? I am... angry... I am a horrible daughter, ain't I?"

"Oh darling, you could never be horrible. You were their princess. Look around at all this pictures. They loved us, I don't doubt that. I think, they just needed each other more? During the ceremony... you know," Teddy had to catch his breath before he could go on. "I found it strange how far their coffins were apart. Remember how we always complained about them touching each other and being ridiculously sappy together? It was only after my break up from Anna, that I noticed that they never took each other for granted. They made both sure that they were in the same moment, together... and after seventy years together... I think Harry tried as hard as he could."

"I hate it when you are all grown up," Electra mumbled and leaned against Teddy.

"That's a very odd position you two have there," Electra's male copy said, leaning against the bookshelf.

"And why is that?" Electra asked a bit annoyed at her twin.

"Because father and dad would never sit that way. They would always sit back to back... most uncomfortable way of sitting ever invented, if you ask me."

"Come here you big brute," Teddy said, offering his other arms. They were his little siblings no matter what anybody else said, or that they were nearly two decades apart in age.

Atlas looked around the shelves a bit more, taking in all the pictures that hung here. Snapshots not beautiful images one would present to others and because of that so much more real and full of feelings.

"Do you think they are together again? I mean... I would hate for them to not be... but who knows..." Atlas said before he sat on Teddy's other side.

As soon as he sat down Electra reached for her brother, as they usually did.

"We can only hope," Teddy said and feeling lame for it. He was supposed to have all the answers. "But I am certain they will always be proud of you two."

"Us three. They loved all of us, we all were their children. And they adored your kids two, even if they are a handful," Electra said, and pinched Teddy.

"I will never forget how much father hated Annabelle, though in the end he was right," Atlas grinned.

"'Name of a cow, and entitlement like the Queen of England'. I still remember. But back then I didn't see it. All I saw-"

"-was her 'voluptuous bosom'. Father told us," Electra laughed sadly.

"But dad always said, we had to make our own mistakes. That they could not protect us from everything."

"They used to fight about that", Electra injected.

"We would hide up the stairs... it was horrible. They were so spiteful to each other when they fought."

Teddy nodded. He remembered the fights he had witnessed. Certainly back then their relationship was not as solid as when Atlas and Electra were born, and so he too often feared they would simply give up on each other, but they never did. "I think fighting... fighting means you still care, certainly they were not nice when they fought, and you both missed out on the days of stilted conversations... but they still slept in the same bed, and once their tempers were calmer they would try to understand each other. I think... fighting was also their way of making sure that they were making the decision together, and nobody was making it for them. In lived with my gran until I was about five... and back then, when they adopted me together everybody had an opinion or advice. There was so much pressure they could not let out, so they found a way to release it together. And they grew from it. When they decided to get children, nobody even dared to say anything else but 'congratulations'. Especially Harry fought hard for that peace, because he didn't want to hide, unlike Draco."

"The only person father ever fought with was dad," Electra said.

Atlas nodded. "Remember when we were accosted? If dad hadn't shown up, father would have listened to the mob even longer. What contrary person father was. I never thought about that... and now I can't ask him about the whys anymore."

"You know the why though. Father liked peace and freedom and order. The only chaos he could cope with was dad."

"Endless discussions about socks not being put away," Atlas giggled.

Teddy laughed. That was something that apparently had never changed. "They had a beautiful life together... and in a way I am glad they died together, because I doubt that one could really be without the other."

Electra bit her lip, before he nodded once.

"I promised father that my son would either be called 'Titan' or 'Orion'. I wonder how I am to sell that to my future wife," Atlas said suddenly.

"Oh thank Merlin. I thought I am the only one. I promised 'Rigel' and 'Leon'."

"Typically of the Malfoys. The heir is called after the stars," Teddy smiled.

"So, he made you name your girls after stars too?"

"He didn't have to, I wanted it so... actually I asked him, and... let's just say he nearly broke my ribs with that hug. He looked so slim, but he was strong," Teddy grinned.

"They both were," Electra nodded.

"So they must be together. They are too strong to let each other go," Atlas whispered.

And with that they fell silent, looking around the hiding room of their parents. It would be weird for years to come, to enter this room and find it empty, or to not be hushed out of it...

I think people were scared of clicking on this because of the death warning... It certainly gave me pause! But this was a very sweet fic. I liked the names you picked for the kids. I appreciated how you painted a very vivid pic of how they were when alive solely through dialogue - very nice work! Draco's snarkiness came through so clearly, haha.
