What Harry liked most about his relationship with Draco were the tiny things. Well, and the sex of course, but that was a given. The tiny things were cute however. Draco was, no matter how polite one want to put it, peculiar. He had many small little things that he just did, without explaining them. Not that Harry needed an explanation, but not having one made the things just weird somehow.
And then one December evening Draco suddenly asked if he had time, and wanted to come with him. Always having been curious about what Draco does, Harry made the time.
In the end Draco apparated them to a small village near the coast, where he took Harry to attend a Mass. It was the first time that he was attending a Mass. He was not sure what he should think about that all. Draco Malfoy, pedigree pure-blood wizard, apparently attending muggle Masses. That was weird. And the mass itself… well it was interesting, and fascinating, but there was somehow also a lot of Latin, that he truly did not understand.
As they left the old church a got one and a half hour later Draco seemed contemplative. He was so deep in thoughts, that he didn't even tell Harry were they were going until he stopped on a bridge right in front of a small stand selling chestnuts. He bought one portion and then continued to walk down along the riverbank.
Harry was not certain if he should continue staying with Draco. Apparently this church - going – ritual had some impact on Draco. Harry wondered for a moment how many more things hi didn't know about Draco.
"Here, taste these, they are good," Draco suddenly offered the chestnuts to him.
They were good, and warm.
"It was interesting, going to church."
"Maybe we can do it again next year," Draco said, but continued to face straight ahead.
"Sure, maybe I can take a dictionary with me. All that Latin goes over my head," Harry agreed easily. He didn't need to understand to enjoy it after all.
"Understanding is overrated. It is more about the experience," Draco replied. And maybe it was. And maybe one day an explanation would lead to understanding.
