Draco has been casting for the ritual since the sun has entered its zenith for the day. His voice is already suffering from it, and he can not yet stop.
Planing the ritual with Theo and Harry, they all agreed that the winter solstices is the best day to do it. So their preparations has run a little short. Both Theo and he himself are speculating that the raw power they will most likely accumulate due to Harry’s involvement will make up for the lack of preparation.
So here he is waiting for his friends to return and chanting the same lines over and over again. He is so focused on what he wants this ritual to do, on his son, who he hasn’t seen for more than a year, that he misses the arrival of Theo and Harry.
However the moment Harry joins him in the circle Draco has to fight to keep on speaking. He is so overwhelmed with the raw power radiating out of Harry. Offering it to Draco for the taking. And it felt endless. He wants it, he wants it all, it was his and he will use it as he likes. He will be all powerful, nobody would dare to stand in his way any longer.
Though something is telling him that he should not simply take it, that it isn’t his to take, he still reached out for it, wanting it, touching it and making the magic bend to his will.
Only as Theo enters the ring, and shares his focus and his calm with them does the overwhelming greed for power lessen.
He continues on with the repetition of the lines and the other two join in. And with the help of Theo Draco is able to direct all this magic that they are gathering, telling it what it needs to do.
And then as the magic is overly eager to spring to action, Draco cuts his hand and lets the blood flow. The magic seems to grab the blood and creates what looks like a moving cloud.
Draco stares at it with intend and once more repeats his wish for his own blood to be brought back to him and for him to get a chance to see and raise his son. And then without a noise the cloud and the magic simply is gone.
Draco can hardly catch his breath, and even Theo is holding himself up with his hands pressed against his knees.
Only Harry seems to be completely fine, though and least Draco can see a thin sheen of sweat covering him.
“And now?” Harry asks a grin on his face.
Draco and Theo roll their eyes at the same time.
“We have to wait. It is a ritual not a charm. So the magic has to weigh Draco’s want and his ability to provide against what they will find his son to be in,” Theo answers patiently.
“Oh, yes right.”
Draco in the meantime bends down to reach for the double-edged sword. The handle was inlaid with the Malfoy Crest while a ruby surrounded by emeralds mark the transition from blade to handle.
“This gives us ample time to make my father’s day truly regrettable,” Draco says with conviction.
“Don’t you want to take a break?” Harry asks concerned.
“No, I want to get this done. If you are up for it,” Draco replies looking at Harry.
“I am up for it, whatever you need to put you at ease and accomplish your revenge,” Harry states with conviction.
Draco and Harry share one long look- a silent conversation until Draco nods. This would be the easy part, as well as the hard part.
It would be easy because it is just one charm, it would be harder, because their timing has to be on point.
