Sitting behind the large dark wooden desk Draco takes in the room. This is the large study, the family study, the one without any name to it, it is just the study. To be entered only when doing Malfoy business like managing the estate, keeping things in order, writing the Malfoy journals. It is the study for the Malfoy patriarch and in a way Draco feels the power of the room, the heavy decisions his ancestors have made in here.
He hasn’t been in here often. His grandfather has always thought him a nuisance and his father... his father has only allowed him here to either tell him what a Malfoy is supposed to be like, to explain how things are to be done or to scolding him for his many failures. In this study his father’s mood has never been easy to deceiver. The one thing that always had been true is that in here his father never was as relaxed as when they went for a fly or a ride. But those have stopped before his third year.
He snorts out loud because while his thoughts may have turned somewhat morose, all he truly fells is giddy for breaking the rules and being in a room he is not allowed in.
Once it has been his highest ambition to make is family proud, but now... now he longs for peace more than anything... and that maybe his surname would not be something to be ashamed of, but he now understands that wanting is not even close to getting. And truthfully there are other things he should worry about. However has become his nature to compartmentalise, to ignore, to forget.
Thunk.
Thunk.
Thunk.
“What in Merlin’s name...?” Draco gets up and walks towards the window where the louse noise came from.
With a raised eyebrow he looks down and sees Potter in his backyard.
“Potter, are you insane? No- scratch that, are you stupid? Yes, yes you are scratch that too. What the heck are you doing here? And how did you get here? Do you enjoy endangering the whole village? What did- “
“-gee Draco, if I only knew you cared so much, I would have come sooner,” Potter grins up at him.
“Seriously Potter, what were you thinking?”
“Seriously Malfoy, why didn’t you write or come by? And there is a hidden path connecting the two estates, but I believe you already knew about it, seeing as it looks like you and Theo did that one,” Potter rolls his eyes.
“And now what? You demand to be let in? Maybe have a cup of tea together?” Draco asks acidly, covering up how impressed he is, that Potter has managed to find Theo’s and his secret way.
If it were summer, it is hard but not impossible, but in winter it was as impossible to find as the toilet guest entrance the Ministry had put up back in the day. You have to know what you are doing to make it work.
“How did you find it?” Draco asks suspicious. Theo and he had promised each other that they would never tell anybody about it.
“If you want to know, you will have to let me in,” Harry grins up at him. “Meet you at the front door, and don’t make me wait too long, the knocker doesn’t like me very much.”
