For Peace's Sake
With a satisfied grin, Harry sat down on the sofa. Since they first moved in together in this sweet cottage which Harry had inherited with the Black Estate Draco had been going on and on how they have to figure out how to live together without annoying the love out of each other. And yes, Harry agreed that this was a sensible and rational way of thinking, but it didn’t help that they had very different opinions on comfortable, clean and important.
But after the first year or so, the rough part had been over. Harry would no longer leave a trail of clothes behind, and also spelled the dishes clean, because otherwise Draco would have a conniption each day. On the other hand, Draco had learned shut up about whatever Harry was wearing as long as Harry didn't as for an opinion, and he got a bit more relaxed about messes in the rooms they shared. Basically everywhere over the house except for Draco's study and laboratory which Harry made a point to not enter. Chaos simply followed him wherever he went. And though Draco was many things, but he was not fond of chaos.
Well, that statement may not be totally true anymore, Draco had mellowed out a lot more, than either of them would have ever thought possible.
According to Narcissa Draco had always been one for cleanliness and order. So far Harry had been able to deduce that the elder Malfoys had unanimously decided that it was grandmother Malfoy's fault. And Draco, if he ever spoke of her, did so with great affection.
So, one fate changing day, when Harry on his way home from the shop, in a spur of them moment had gotten their first little devil. Of course, once home he had to defend his decision and they had a row, that ended with him on the couch. But the little devil had been worth it. And measured in Draco's pace he took to the little charmer quickly. Which meant less than nine months because, Draco was a man with convictions not easily changed. And he had an aversion against the hair everywhere.
But he got used to that as well, and he took to the second one even faster. The fifth one, two years prior were another breaking point, until they had their very first Corgi-litter of their own.
Sadly there was one rule that Draco did not cave in on: Christmas decorations are not to be broken.
Harry could understand that, he got the decorations from his grandmother after all, and they were delicate and fine looking. But that meant that once the decorations were up, his little babies could no longer bounce all over the house. Too much like him, they all had the habit of leaving a trail of destruction wherever they went. They were smart, and liked to play, and sometimes they even managed to act graceful, though Harry knew fully well, they only ever bothered for Draco, because they knew his heart belonged to them even when they were disgraceful.
Not that Draco didn't love them. He did, and he trained them well, and played with them. They were their babies after all, but Draco had higher expectations of them, most likely for their betterment but well.
However, the point of his thoughts was that he finally figured out, how to get the little ones back into the living room, so that he can cuddle with them: Up-Side-Down-Tree!
Not only did it prove once and for all that he has fantastic ideas, but also that he could think like a wizard, if he had to.
So there was nothing Draco could say or rant about. This was the perfect solution and the perfect compromise between decorations and corgis.
He could not wait to see Draco's expression when he came home tonight!
