“Maybe. I haven’t thought about where I want to spent Christmas yet. I might even go back to my flat in Ireland, meet some people there,” Draco shrugs. He hasn’t made plans for Christmas yet, and he isn’t sure if he wants to make plans.

Last year he was still with Mereille and Hettie. But he is certain Mereille would not let him go easily if he went back to hers.

With disbelieve Draco sees Harry deflating: “You really don’t want to spent Christmas with me- well us? I am sure Theo would be more than willing to celerbrate it here. You said he doesn’t like his home. And Neville is good company.”

“I don’t understand why you would want to spend Christmas with me. And Theo... I’m not even certain Theo has forgiven me yet. This might be news to you, but we Slytherins are able to carry grudges like no one else,” Draco tries to placate him.

“Well... I mean you could talk to him, when you both have some free time,” Harry says rubbing the back of his head, messing up his hair something fierce.

Oh, Draco is very much aware of all the things Harry doesn’t say in the moment. But sometimes your best friend turns into the hardest person to talk too, because of how aware you are that they would try to understand you, but in a way never can, because they see the world in that regard so different from you.

“But for me personally, I would very much like to spend Christmas with you. Very much, really,” Harry goes on looking about the room shyly.
“We said we would together walk into the new year. And now finally the chance is here, I don’t want to miss this chance again,” he sighs, and rubs the back of his neck, before he takes a deep breath.
“And I want to enjoy my time with you until then as well.... it is selfish and you deserve so much more, but you know having you back in my life, is like a part of me came back alive, a very important part, that exists because of you... for you. “ he finishes in a near whisper.

Draco doesn’t know how to handle that sort of confession. It has never happened to him before, this blunt honesty. How does one react to that?
He doesn’t need to hear the grand clock ticking away the minutes to feel the silence stretching on.

The truth is that it would be so much easier if Harry’s advances were unwanted, but they aren’t. They never would be, for the simple reason that he is Harry Potter. And Draco has always wanted him.

“Want to bake some cookies?” Draco blurts out the first thing that comes to his mind, as his eyes meet the table between them.

“Ehh... what?” Harry asks uncertain.

“For there to be Christmas there needs to be cookies. When I was little my grandmamma would always let me help bake her secret recipe of Christmas cookies. In the end they can move for a bit, and sing, and dance depending on the shape. Letters speak, figures dance. It was always fun to do, and I am certain I can get her to tell me where the recipe is,” Draco carries on, but he has moved, and carefully put his hand above Harry’s.
He looks Harry in the eyes, tries to convey to him all that he can’t say.
He isn’t saying no, he never said no... but there are things he needs to change, he needs to take control over, before he can fall in love with Harry Potter.
